GETTING THERE

All international flights into Gabon arrive at the Leon Mba International Airport in Libreville, the country’s capital.  The international airport of Port Gentil was recently inaugurated and will begin also welcoming international flights in the near future.

You can then continue to Port Gentil by airplane (30 minute flight) or by boat (4 hours under normal conditions).  It is recommended to reserve and confirm your tickets in advance. Please note that the allowable luggage weight limit included with domestic flights is 20kg.  However, it is possible to exceed this limit by paying a fee.

VACCINES AND MEDICAL TREATMENTS

The only required vaccine is for yellow fever.  Plan to have it done at an international vaccination center at least 10 days before your arrival and keep your vaccination certification with you at the airport where you can be legally obliged to present it.

• Rabies (for adventure travel)

It is also recommended to consult with a doctor before your trip.

MONEY

Currency is Franc CFA (African Financial Community)
Bills exist in denominations of 10,000; 5,000; 2,000; 1,000; and 500 FCFA.
Coins exist in denominations of 250, 100, 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 FCFA.
Exchange: Gabon is part of the Franc Zone. Only currency issued by the Bank of Central African States is valid; currency issued by the Bank of West African States is not valid.
The CFA Franc is tied to the Euro.
For your Visas and Mastercards, ATMs (automatic teller machines) are available in various locations in the city at banks.

Gabon has instituted an electronic visa system, more commonly known as e-visa, with the goal of facilitating entry into the country.  For those who wish to settle in Gabon, please consult the website www.dgdi.ga for the terms.  For the time being this method addresses only those who would like to arrive in Gabon by plane into Leon Mba International Airport in Libreville.
